The principal investment has been a core
business for China Development Industrial Bank (“CDIB”)
since the Company’s inception in 1959. Meanwhile,
CDIB becomes a leading player in Taiwan’s Private
Equity and Venture Capital industry. Our team has built
a comprehensive investment portfolio with the leverage
of our extensive business network in major global markets
and industries.
Our direct investment strategies are formulated based
on local and global industry trends. We invest in vertical
sectors with deep domain expertise and focus on investment
opportunities with proven, sustainable business model.
Our portfolio, comprised of primarily Taiwan’s
manufacturing sectors, is the largest and best performing
in the nation. Our coverage include electronics and
related peripherals, wireless communications, electronic
materials, optoelectronics, semiconductors, automotive
parts, medical equipment, clean energy, environment
service, and biotechnology. At the end of 2007, the
total investment outstanding of our 335 portfolio companies
is NT$ 78.7 billion (USD$2.6 billion).
Local economy has experienced modest growth in recent
years. Offshore relocation of manufacturing industries,
enhanced vertical integration of major industrial players,
listing relaxation of the Taiwan Stock Exchange, and
tight government regulations all contribute to the sluggish
private equity market. Direct investment business was
also affected. To cope with changing economic landscape,
CDIB has reorganized its principal investment department
and adjust investment strategy to sustain our business
growth.
Looking to the future, our direct investment business
will strive to maintain high earning growth leveraged
by our due diligence mechanism and deal sourcing advantages.
To diversify geographical risk, we will also aggressively
liaison with top global investment institutions to seek
co-investment opportunities.
